Exustar Cycling Shoes FAQ

I have a problem with my shoes; who should I contact?
If you have a problem with your Exustar shoes, visit the Contact Us page and fill out the contact form

If I have a question about Exus shoes, can you help me?
If you have questions about Exustar or Exus shoes, you should visit the Contact Us page and fill out the contact form (Since 2003 our shoes have been called Exustar, not Exus.)

I just bought a pair of Exustar shoes; why are the cleats missing?
They are not missing. Like most shoe companies, we do not supply cleats with shoes. Cleats and hardware are supplied with new Exustar clipless pedals. They are also available separately as replacement parts. Cleats are shown on your shoe instructions only to illustrate how they should be assembled to the shoe sole. See our Cleat page.

How do I take care of my shoes?

You can extend the life of your Exustar shoes by taking a little time to clean and care for them:

‧ Store your shoes away from sunshine in a well-ventilated place.
‧ If storing for a lengthy period of time, loosely pack shoes with balls of paper to help them maintain their shape.
‧ Always air-dry your footwear after each use. Remove inner sole to air inside the shoe properly.
‧ Remove dry mud with a stiff plastic-bristled brush.
‧ Remove any small stones or objects that may have lodged in the shoe sole, particularly around cleat area, vents or spike holes.
‧ Grime can be removed with a damp cloth. Do not immerse shoes in water, or machine-wash. Inner soles may be washed separately.
‧ Do not leave wet shoes enclosed in a bag for an extended time as this can create mould.
‧ If insoles are badly worn, Exustar supplies replacement insoles. There are also numerous third party options for replacement.
‧ Damaged or badly worn shoes should be replaced.

Are Exustar shoes compatible with Speedplay Zero pedals?
Yes, our road shoes are compatible with Zero pedals. Speedplay supplies adaptor hardware with the pedals. According to their website, "The 1-F and 1-R Snap Shims are factory installed on the 3-hole plastic base plate of the cleat." See the Speedplay website for details and instructions.

Why am I having problems attaching SPD Cleats to Exustar Road Shoes SR442, SR412 and SR432?

Due to a special sole design, SPD cleat bolts are too short for these shoes. To remedy this, we supply longer (12.5mm) bolts with these shoes. Replace standard cleat bolts with the Exustar bolts supplied with your shoes, and attach as per instructions. This issue applies only to the models listed above.

Exustar Pedals FAQ

How do you designate a pedal Extremely Lightweight or Lightweight?
We have some of the lightest pedals in the world; this is our own company standard. An Extremely Lightweight pedal is 120 g/pc or under, while a Lightweight pedal is 150 g/pc or under. Weights are for single pedals in grams.

Do pedals with titanium axles have any limitations?
Titanium is a great way to lighten your ride, but frankly speaking, titanium has some limitations as a material for pedal axles. If a steel and a Ti axle are proportionally the same, the steel axle will be harder and stiffer than the Ti. It is for this reason that Exustar recommends that riders over 85 kg (187 lb) do NOT use titanium axle-equipped pedals. Doing so will void your warranty.
